Teac TN-5BB-M/B turntable with belt drive and XLR outputs
The cabinet has a multi-layer construction with a heavy 36 mm MDF base plate and a 12 mm plastic marble top (the weight of the cabinet is 8.8 kg). This ensures a high level of feedback resistance. The tonearm and platter are mounted on the plastic marble top plate, while the motor, which causes the vibrations, is mounted on the MDF base plate. These separate structures isolate the tonearm and motor from each other. The overall structure is extremely stable and thus reduces the vibrations transmitted from the motor to the tonearm.
IPRS3 belt drive structure supports precise and stable platter rotation
Ideally, the platter would continue to rotate under its own weight, but this is of course impossible. The TN-5BB uses the belt drive method with a flat belt that transmits the force of the DC motor to the outer circumference of the platter. An optical sensor on the underside of the platter detects the rotation speed of the platter, and an automatic rotation adjustment mechanism then servo-drives the motor.
This Platter Rotation Sensing Servo System (PRS3) realises a high rotation precision that would be difficult to achieve with motor alone. By supporting three speeds, 33-⅓, 45 and 78 rpm, this turntable can play both old records and 78 rpm records with high audio quality.
20 mm thick acrylic platter
Acrylic with excellent flatness and internal loss is used for the platter. The 20 mm thick acrylic has a weight of 1.7 kg. The polyvinyl material used in vinyl records easily absorbs negative electrical charges. Acrylic has the same property, although these materials are relatively close to each other in the triboelectric series. This has the advantage that electrification is made more difficult even if they rub directly against each other. Records can be placed directly on the turntable without the need for a turntable platter, so that crystal-clear sound can be enjoyed.
