The Aqara Door and Window Sensor P2 not only includes all the advanced automation and security features that Aqara* is known for, but also gives users the ability to connect it directly to third-party gateways, such as smart speakers, and enjoy all the benefits of the Matter smart home standard.

* Some features require an Aqara gateway (the Aqara M3 hub is expected to be released in Q4 2023), please check the description for more details.

Warnings we recommend you read before purchasing (June 20, 2023):

To use this device via the Thread protocol, you must have a "Thread border router" device. If you also want to use this sensor via the Matter standard, this Thread border router must also be a Matter Controller.
The list of nodes that function as both a Thread border router and a Matter Controller is shown in the image below.
AQARA does not yet offer a node that functions as both a Thread border router and a Matter Controller. Such a node is planned for the fourth quarter of 2023.
The device cannot currently be used with the AQARA Home app until a node from AQARA is specified.

Additional features in the Aqara Home app: Flexible settings via the Aqara Home app will be expanded with the launch of Hub M3 in the near future. Users can precisely set the sensor sensitivity in the range of 1 to 3 cm and adjust the idle time according to specific scenarios, and use the programmable button to trigger various smart home automations. In addition, the Tamper Alarm feature will immediately send alerts to your smartphone if the sensor is tampered with.

Automation:

1. No more lights suddenly turning off when you are in the toilet.
IF the contact sensor was open (i.e., the toilet lid was open, meaning the toilet was in use)
THEN Turn off the automation "Turn off the light if no movement has been detected for 2 minutes"

2. Detect the status of your existing air conditioner
IF the contact sensor was open (i.e., the AC was turned on)
THEN do not trigger your IR controller to start the automation "Turn on AC".

3. Save energy when a door or window is open
IF a door or window was open
THEN turn off the thermostat to reduce energy consumption and your carbon footprint

4. Warning system: the P2 door and window sensor is part of the Aqara Home alarm system: automatically activate the system using the presence sensor and you will be notified immediately if someone opens a door, drawer, or window while you are away from home

5. Indoor door installation: it must be possible to drill a hole and install the P2 door and window sensor inside the door so that it is invisible. A 23 mm drill bit is required.
